Why are we spending time in Nancy? Well it's obviously for the Bergamots (or sometimes spelt Bergamotte) de Nancy it's a boiled sweet with Bergamot essence traditionally made in Nancy. Bergamot for those who are interested is extracted from the rind of a Bergamot orange which comes from a lemon tree grafted onto a wild orange tree. Hence its distinctive flavour. They are endemic in Nancy and more recently on Christmas cards, perhaps you did not notice? They were originally a favourite of our good old friend King Stanislas, yes our friend of Madeline fame, before being 'allowed' (I like that bit) to be available to the public. Good thing as they are excellent.
Apart from Bergamot sweets there is lots to do in Nancy, there are bars, Les Docks is particularly good with a 3 'hour' happy hour! and L'Echanson, wine bar, what a selection. There are many others. Great quintette last week and the Opera tomorrow night for a Rachmaninov extravaganza in Russian (definitely needs a beer or two after that one). And the restaurants, culture and early morning running. It's been -8deg C some mornings and it makes you run fast, if you don't well I think you know what happens.
